Introduced in 1816, Spode's Blue Italian dinnerware is a classic that has remained popular among collectors and diners throughout the centuries. This 12-piece set is ideal for daily dining as it includes four 10-inch dinner plates, four 8-inch salad plates, and four casual 9-ounce mugs that are all dishwasher- and microwave-safe. Referred to as "transferware," the elaborate pattern is engraved by hand onto copper plates and then transferred onto the ceramic by skilled artisans using blue underglaze--a process that was perfected back in 1784 but is still carried out today at the original Spode factory in England. Influenced by a ink and wash drawing from the 17th century, Blue Italian pictures Roman ruins within a pastoral setting in the center of the dinner and salad plates and around the exterior of the mugs. A fantastic floral border on the rims of the gently scalloped plates and the handles of the mugs shows influences from early Chinese porcelain designs. Made of high-quality glazed earthenware, this place setting is delicate in appearance but has been updated to meet today's standards of durability. | These are beautiful dishes of great quality. The dinner plate has a wide rim so that it does not hold a large amount of food if you are a hefty eater. Also the dessert/salad plates are smallish as well as the mugs. I think most people that eat limited portions won't mind this but anyone who loves to load up the plates or enjoys large size mugs of coffee, etc. would be very annoyed. With our diet it works for us. The pattern and colors are gorgeous... eye candy! |

| Ever since I laid my eyes on the SPODE collection in London, I fell in love with it. But I didn't buy yet because I was relocating to US. When I arrived in CA, US, I tried to search if I can buy it here on Amazon. I was extremely happy that they're available that I bought 2 sets, one as a gift for my friend and one for me. The packages arrived on time before Christmas. We enjoyed our Christmas dinner using the new SPODE collection I bought. My friend was very pleased with her new dinner set and so am I! |

| I received a 16 inch square, 6 inch deep box of dishes in a 3 foot by 2 foot, 12 inch deep carton. The inside was filled with inflated plastic bags. Needless to say, there was not a "chip" on any of the china pieces. The Spode blue italian is a classic design that delighted my wife when she opened her gift. |

these are a beautiful dark blue...no chalky blue here!!!
they are not as black blue as the picture though. they are large and won't fit in standard cabinetry....so you will have to find a place for them.....
great quality! i saw them at walmart for more!!! i got 25.00 off an entire order of 125.00 and free shipping..which is 20% off.....
you won't be sorry.....they mix and match great with the other colors in their collection! they are a heavy weight.
i purchased the red with these to mix and match...the red on the picture is not the red on the dishes they are a chalky red..almost mauvey red.....i love bright red..so that was a bit of a bum...but they look great alone or with the blue!!! |
