The finest restaurants know that presentation is extremely important in enhancing the enjoyment of exquisitely prepared food. For your next dinner party, that same principal applies to your own presentation. Serving your guests using fine china tableware will go a long way in convincing your friends that you approach life with a sense of style to accompany your culinary skills. Here are some pointers to keep in mind.

Fine China Tableware Provides Classic Style For Your Next Dinner Party

When good food is presented on fine china tableware, a classic style is created for an important dinner party and the ambience is established in the fine lines and prestigious designs of well known manufacturers such as Royal Doulton, Spode or Denby china. Does this sound a bit unrealistic or over the top? You can prove this statement to be correct by taking a simple test! Go to your local supermarket or favourite store and purchase a box of the best quality tea bags that are suited to your taste. Make one cup of tea served in an old mug and serve another cup of tea in a fine bone china cup made by Spode or Denby china for example. Just sit back and relax and enjoy your favourite tea. You will notice almost immediately that the tea served in the fine bone china cup with matching saucer and displaying an exquisite design will provide you with a distinctly improved flavour and tea drinking experience.

Fine bone china is not cheap, but with correct care and storage is more than suitable for everyday use and can be enjoyed for many years to come. A complete dinner set will include all the essential items needed for that refreshing cup of tea as well as entertaining to the highest standard. What we choose to wear will often reflect our mood and the same can be said for the style in which we eat. Good food is essential for healthy living so why not invest in a decent set of fine bone china so that family and friends may eat in style and dine in a quality environment. Most of the modern fine bone china manufacturers are up to speed with the hectic demands of modern life and have incorporated dish washer friendly designs into their manufacturing process. Should there be any unfortunate accidental damages to one or two of the china pieces, then this is not too much of a major problem as individual pieces are replaceable from a good supplier so the set is not incomplete.

When it is important to make a good impression on diner guests then the food that has been carefully prepared needs to be beautifully presented. Fine bone china tableware designs offer the dinner host the perfect opportunity to display a sense of style and panache. With classic designs for a formal dinner through to modern styles for a relaxed evening with friends, there is without doubt a suitable design for the most discerning dinner entertainer.

Whether you've received porcelain tableware passed to you as an heirloom, or possess a new set, it's inevitable that it will become stained, or require more than routine cleaning. There are certain things you should avoid. Here are some tips to keep in mind when it comes to maintaining your tableware in top shape.

How to Preserve Porcelain Tableware

Has someone passed down their fine china to you? Did you invest in a beautiful porcelain or ceramic dish set? If so, you will want to preserve it well, and leave it for future generations to enjoy. There are several things that you should and should not do with your porcelain tableware or dinnerware. Take a look at these tips so that you can preserve your expensive pottered set for years to come.

How To Clean Your Porcelain Dinnerware

If you wish to clean stains or dried food from the dishes, soak them in warm soapy water for several minutes. With a light duty scrubbing sponge, gently wipe away any stuck on food. Do not scrub aggressively or use scouring pads, heavy duty scrubbers, or harsh cleansers. If the stain is still hard to remove, soak it longer.

For tea stains, use four cups of water with about two tablespoons of chlorine bleach. Let the tea cups soak for a few minutes, and then rinse them well.

For scrape marks left by forks and knives, use a gentle metal cleaner.

It is quite alright to use the dishwasher for you porcelain dinnerware (or tableware), but make sure that you use the fine china cycle on low heat. Do not place the items too close together; they should not touch during the cycle. Be sure to use a quality detergent as well.

Things to avoid

Naturally, you will want to always handle your porcelain tableware with the upmost care. So many scratches, chips, cracks, and breaks can be avoided if you take your time when serving, using, washing, and storing your tableware. Be careful.

You should not use your porcelain dinnerware to reheat food. Don't put it in the microwave or on the stove. While it is true that this pottery can handle high temperatures, you will still risk cracks and deformity.

Be careful not to create a temperature shock with your porcelain dinnerware. If you will be serving very hot food, warm the plates with tap water first. Applying hot food to cool porcelain dishes can cause cracks and breaks.

Porcelain pottery is special, and should only be used for special occasions. There is less of an opportunity for damage if you do not use your porcelain tableware frequently. A few choice holiday meals are good enough to use your special china.

Pottery is special and virtually priceless, so take good care of it and preserve it well.

Entertaining guests for dinner, especially around the holidays, raises the question whether you have sufficient dinnerware, and what sort of tableware will suit the social occasion you're planning. Setting a table properly can go a long way toward making for successful entertaining. Take a little time to read some useful tips that will aid you in getting there. Read on...

Dinnerware - Making the Right Selection

What type of dinnerware to utilize for your get-together is simple for some, but not so simple for others. For those who find it easy to entertain, this is no difficult task and putting out dinnerware is as simple and as setting up the placements. But for many, the skill is one that is hard to learn and requires much attention from the individual.

When deciding what type of dinnerware to utilize, it can often be a matter of durability versus attractiveness. For many types of place settings, the more luxurious the product is, the more likely it will be fragile. On the other hand, the more durable the product is, the less likely it will be very attractive.

Whatever it is that you decide, it is important to understand that you must bring the best of both worlds and to ensure that you have beautiful and luxurious table settings as well as a somewhat durable item in case of mishap. In this way, you can ensure that the dinnerware is not only durable but attractive as well.

In this effort to provide durable as well as attractive items for the consumption of food, it may require you to take some time to find the products that fit this type of particular definition. While there are certainly plenty of items to choose from, it can be difficult to decide what type of dinnerware is right for you. By making the selection well ahead of time, you can end all of the last-minute debate, doubt and fear when throwing a dinner party or other get-together.

With the effort to provide a top-flight experience, putting up the right dinnerware can make all the difference. Whether you are dining with the neighbors from down the street or international travelers, you can hopefully find the right types of products to utilize in order to make their dining experience memorable. With so many different types of dinnerware available in the world, it should not be too difficult to find a product that you require to set your table.

As long as you are entertaining guests, it is a good idea to keep your best and most presentable items out for inspection. In this way, it is easy for individuals to admire and take advantage of these exceptionally well-crafted products. This method of using the most presentable dinnerware is common around the world and sees a tremendous level of usage.

Deciding what type of products to put out for dinner is easy for some but more difficult for others. If you're still in doubt, you can always take advantage of the knowledge of others around you. Discussing the matter with your more knowledgeable friends and relatives might be the ticket in order for you to craft the perfect evening.

Although to many, it might sound insignificant to focus so completely on the success of a dinner party or its guests, for a great deal of individuals, it is the height of social activity and requires a tremendous level of planning and execution. With the pressure to succeed that these individuals feel, selecting the right dining accessories makes all the difference in the world.

As more and more individuals focus on this type of social event, selecting the right dinnerware becomes a critical element to the success of the entire evening. In order to entertain a large party, the host must focus on all manner of different items and possibilities in order to minimize the chances that something could go wrong. Amongst all these concerns, it is actually paramount that the place settings be perfect for everyone attending.

With all of the effort put forth by individuals who are so concerned about having the perfect dinnerware for their guests or throwing a perfect dinner party, it is not surprising that the majority of these types of evenings go off without a hitch. With so many individuals enjoying the experience of dining together at a party or get-together of this nature, these types of dinner parties tend to become a regular habit. As more and more of these successful events are undertaken, the chances of success are found to hinge upon the quality of the preparations involved for everyone attending.

Probably there is no more mundane topic than the history of dinnerware. But, actually, there is an interesting history behind how the exqusite tableware we see today came about. Plates were unknown in Europe until the 15th century. How did people eat before that? Here's a rundown that points up why we use plates and the fine dinnerware available to us today.

Dinnerware - From Trenchers to Plates

Plates. Everybody needs them, and everybody needs to eat off of them. But did you ever wonder just where the plate came from, and how it came to be? Today, plates are usually made from ceramic such as stoneware. Of course, there are also unbreakable versions, especially useful for those that have children, for example.

However, what happened before the plate was invented? In fact, plates were first used about the 15th century, in Europe. Before that, devices called "trenchers" were used in lieu of plates. These were first developed as pieces of stale bread, hollowed out, specially baked and harden so that they would hold food without dissolving. Once the food was eaten off of these bread trenchers, they could be fed to dogs are pigs, or might be offered to peasants outside who were hungry. In many cases, wooden trenchers underneath them supported these bread trenchers. However, wood rotted and couldn't be kept very clean.

China, in fact, got a jump on Europe by a couple hundred years with regards to the invention of the dinner plate. China pioneered the use of porcelain by about 600 A.D., and began to trade porcelain objects including dinner plates in about the 1300s. Because of this, European nobility soon saw porcelain dinner plates as objects of desire to be had. In 1708, a German potter discovered how the Chinese made pottery, launching Europe's expertise in porcelain making itself. In fact, many of the best known potteries were formed about this time. For example, in 1710, Royal Saxon was founded; in 1759, Wedgwood came on the scene; and in 1775, Royal Copenhagen made its appearance. Spode was founded in England in 1776. But again, although royalty could easily afford these plates, they were still out of reach of the common person.

In the 1800s, so-called "souvenir" plates became popularized by a nobleman of Dutch and English descent named Patrick Palmer Thomas. He entertained Victorian audiences with elaborate plate displays and started the art of actually collecting porcelain dinner plates for display. By this time, of course, dinner plates had evolved from wooden trenchers hard to keep clean to durable metal and tin plates, which were easy to keep clean, traveled well, and were durable besides.

The dinner plate continues to be a staple on the dinner table, of course, and today it's available in a variety of materials and designs at very modest prices. What that means for the average person, of course, is that you don't have to be filthy rich to have an elaborate dinner party with top-notch dinnerware. Nonetheless, the practice of collecting plates started in the United States by Patrick Palmer Thomas continues to this day. In fact, Christmas plates became very popular, and European collectors plates began to appear in the United States in the mid-20th century. Plate collecting continues to be popular to this day and is much easier to do in some ways, because of the advent of the Internet.

The use of porcelain in making dinnerware is nothing new. Much of the luxury we enjoy today in fine china tableware can be attributed to a long tradition of working with porcelain over many centuries. The history of porcelain is interesting, and is highlighted in the invormative article below which we recently came accross.

Porcelain Powered Dinnerware

Tableware made of porcelain had its beginnings approximately 1000 years old. Discovered in China, the use of porcelain is often credited to the Song Dynasty. This is arguable, as historians point to the early uses of porcelain 100 years before during the Tang Dynasty. Regardless, the Song Dynasty was the first dynasty to ever create royal porcelain factories, which were charged with creating fine porcelain wares.

The term, fine china, includes the spectrum of porcelain pieces, including tableware, vases, and figures. As the regard of porcelain increased, particularly through the 1700s, the city of Jingdezhen became the designated capital of porcelain production. During both the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1912), some of the finest examples of fine china were created.

The significance of porcelain had, and still has, a great deal to do with the time-consuming nature of its creation. For the two ingredients that shape porcelain, namely kaolin and petuntse, to successfully meld, a kiln must be fired to at the least 1250 degrees. As the petuntse, which can only be found in China, melts, it is the kaolin that helps retain the piece's shape. This is the exclusive quality of porcelain: refined delicacy and fragility.

Because porcelain was so well esteemed, it was only a matter of time before European artisans began competing. The variance in the porcelain was obvious because they did not have access to the raw materials found in China. The European porcelain used softer clay and when fired, failed to reproduce the distinctive white color of Chinese porcelain. Nevertheless, the process was equally prolonged and translated well into a new luxury item.

The conduction of this delicate porcelain from one generation to the next, has only increased its value. Splendid china, surviving years of traveling from one place to the next and being passed from one generation to the next is a miracle in itself. This finest porcelain china represents the history of our ancestors. Striving to preserve the past, which has been realized to some extent, our ancestors seem to have been more advanced in some ways than was first thought. The items of the past including the fine china dinnerware that has been discovered in many cultures is one of the clues that they did indeed live for the finer things in life just as we do today.

For nearly two centuries, Pfaltzgraff dinnerware has been exemplified the highest quality in craftsmanship and design. Starting as a modest pottery shop, the company grew to become one of the most well known designers in the U.S. Nearly everyone has heard of or seen an example of Pfaltzgraff's products.

From their early salt-glazed crocks, earthenware, and flower pots, the company expanded rapidly, and now produces great glassware, dinnerware, accessories and more. In 2005, Pfaltzgraff teamed up with Lifetime Brands to offer even more options to the general public.

Pfaltzgraff is known for some of the most well loved designs in dinnerware. These include the Naturewood, Folk Art, Pistoulet and Yorktowne lines. While the earliest crocks were used as a method of food preservation, and were primarily practical, the beauty of Pfaltzgraff dinnerware graces thousands of kitchens across America today.

Interested in purchasing Pfaltzgraff online? We offer a huge selection in our Pfaltzgraff Store.

York Pennsylvania Roots

The company was started by the Pfaltzgraff family upon immigrating to the US in the early nineteenth century. They set up a small kiln and potter's studio on their homestead in York County, PA - the current home of the brand.

However, while the early market went only as far as a horse and a wagon could travel in one day, products are now available through catalogs and stores coast to coast. If you want, you can also choose to buy through the Pfaltzgraff website.

The big change came in the 1960s, when the brand, which had formerly been sold only through specialty retailers, chose to market itself through high end stores such as Macy's. That increased the availability and demand for fine dinnerware from Pfaltzgraff, and production increased.

Pfaltzgraff dinnerware is associated with a long standing tradition of service, quality, and craftsmanship. Because of the company's age and it's commitment to quality, Pfaltzgraff has a thriving, well known collector community, too. Just look online for retailers and individuals offering vintage examples of this company's high quality products.

Pfaltzgraff Collectibles

Collectible Pfaltzgraff dinnerware can command a high price in the right markets, especially older pieces. If you'd like to get started collecting vintage china, Pfaltzgraff isn't a bad brand to start with. Just make sure that you know the difference between a good deal and a bad one, and that you can identify the real thing.

If you're thinking about a dinnerware purchase, whether it's for your own home or as a gift, it's worth taking the time to check out Pfaltzgraff. Antique, vintage, or modern, there's sure to be a pattern and style that'll suit your preferences and your budget.

The most expensive knife isn't necessarily the best. If you don't keep your knives up in good condition, they won't be easy to cook with, no matter how costly they were. It's vital to have the right knives and be able to make sure they're in good shape, if you want to have an efficient kitchen and avoid accidents.

Every cook should be sure to have a decent chef's knife. This is the familiar large handled knife with a wide base and pointed tip, and it's the knife you'll use for most of your cutting tasks. Because chef's knives are so versatile, you won't even need to invest in a full knife set. All you need is a great, very sharp chef's knife to accomplish almost everything.

Remember that not every chef's knife is the same. These blades come in many different sizes, and are measured by the length of the blade. Don't get one that's too small - the smallest knife you should buy for all purpose use is around eight inches long, not including the handle. Small knives may seem safer or easier to use, but that's not always true. Large knives can be used to cut small things, but the reverse doesn't work.

The variety of knives can be bewildering, since even an eight inch chef's knife comes in examples between fifteen and a hundred and fifty dollars. Look for a knife that's around twenty-five dollars if you're on a budget, but more money can get you a more attractive knife. A significant overhang below the handle will help you keep it sharp.

You might have heard that a costly knife will hold it's edge longer. That's not really true. Good steel does keep an edge better than the cheapest metal, but cutting any sturdy root vegetable will cause the edge to go out of true. It doesn't matter if you're using a mediocre knife or one that's top of the line. To help fix this, use a steel to straighten the edge on a daily basis. Steels are the long sticks you've probably seen with knife sets, and are traditionally made from steel. However, many are not ceramic or diamond. Using a steel is just a matter of swiping it down the side of the knife at a twenty degree angle, but this takes some experience. For those who aren't comfortable with this process, there are also a few easier options.

You can get knife and tool sharpeners that have their own built in angle, eliminating guesswork. With them, you can straighten a knife edge without needing skill. Just hold the knife with the edge up, tip hanging off the counter's edge. Swipe the sharpener over the edge a few times, and you'll get a much sharper blade. However, this kind of sharpener can reduce the life of your knife, taking metal off the edge. Still, a knife that's sharp and lasts a few years is better than a dull one for a lifetime.

No matter how you sharpen your knives, be sure to wash and dry them both before and after sharpening. Once you get used to having a sharp knife, you'll know right away when yours is losing its edge. Suddenly, cutting becomes a lot more difficult. One easy test is sliding your knife along a peach or tomato, exerting no pressure. If the knife is sharp, it'll pierce the skin right away.

Always treat your knife carefully, too. Don't use a granite or glass cutting board, because they'll hurt the edge. Instead, a plastic or wood cutting surface is preferred. Also, wash and dry the knife immediately after use to prevent a sink full of dishes from taking the edge off.

A fine meal is enhanced immeasurably by the mood and ambience of the table setting, and using the right dinnerware is an integral part of making a meal a memorable experience. Table settings should be inviting and promise a pleasurable meal time, drawing your family and guests into a comfortable yet exciting Epicurean adventure.

Gracious hosts know that, over time, investment in fine china and will empower you to bestow upon your friends and colleagues to a gratifying social and dining event.

Dinnerware: Making Fine Meals

At the dawn of what most historians agree is the modern world, the years between 1815 and 1830, the most lavish dinner in the best homes in England consisted of only two courses-paltry by our standards. Of course, each course commonly consisted of twenty-five different dishes spread all over the table! The first course consisted of soups, platters laden with meats of all kind, whole fish, pies, and vegetables. The second course was "lighter"-venison, ham. roast goose, puddings and sweets. The Diners "skirmished" among the serving pieces, taking a bit of everything.

Just imagine the serving pieces needed to host such a spread?not to mention the table settings! The amount of storage space alone would require a butler?s pantry the size of a modern garage! Few private hostesses could manage such a selection of food today, and just as well?imagine the outcry from doctors at such massive amounts of rich food!

Not needing soup tureens and meat platters by the dozen these days, the modern hostess can afford to be choosier about the dinnerware she buys. New brides and distinctive hostesses have long considered Gearys to provide the highest quality table settings available, hand selected from around the globe. Browsing amongst brand names that have graced the tables of popes and noblemen is a lovely experience.

There are designs to suit any style, from the most traditional to the most ultra-modern. Set your table in the elegant style of those 19th century epicurean giants or serve your meals on something a little more up to date. From incredibly exquisite hand painted plates featuring fruits, flora and fauna to the simplest white dinnerware, you can find dinnerware to set the finest of tables.

Excellent dinnerware elevates a simple meal into an event to be savored. Refined table settings create a mood of distinction and make any occasion more significant. With the best China and porcelain, there is no such thing as an "everyday" meal!

If you're in the market for fine dinnerware, be sure you make your purchases from a respected dinnerware retailer.

You may not really have given it much thought, but kitchen accessories are classified under four groupings which are discussed in the article below which we recently came across. Here at TableWareMall.Com we focus on tableware, including dinnerware. Interestingly, the article attributes the crowing glory of the kitchen to dinnerware. We Agree. Read on.

Kitchen Accessories Can be Separated Into Four Groupings

Imagine if the food processor had never been invented! Kitchen accessories are pieces of magnificent equipment. These galley-electric assistants can speed up the cooking time on your daily schedule. Think for a moment about how much time you save by using the food processor in place of performing all your food preparation by hand.

What Are Kitchen Accessories? Kitchen accessories are separated into four groupings. They would be; cookware, bake ware, dinnerware and kitchen tools. All these types of galley fixtures are very central to your food preparation and you need all of them. You cannot only buy whatever electric accessories you require on sale, but you may want to acquire what assistants will be useful in your galley that will be helpful as it pertains to your particular type of eating.

Fiesta dinnerware, produced by Homer Laughlin, is one attractive and popular way to add some interest to the table. However, to use it correctly, you'll need to make sure it has the care it requires. If you don't protect the appearance and integrity of your tableware, it won't last. The good news is that caring for Fiesta dinnerware doesn't have to be hard. Here are a few tips.

Fiestaware Care

Just like any other kind of ceramic dinnerware, Fiesta dishes are best hand washed. Use only mild soaps that have no lemon derived scents or oils in them, as these could damage the finish. Even if your Fiesta dinnerware is mostly a display piece, wash it once or more every year. All Fiesta ware should be kept clean, even those that spend all their time in display cases.

Shopping for Fiestaware?

Just take a little time to browse for Fiestaware. Or...

One common issue that collectors and users of Fiesta dinnerware may experience is unsightly marks caused by utensils, especially on light green, yellow, or ivory plates. Fortunately, this type of dinnerware was made to be used every day. That means it's durable and well made, and utensil marks are removable.

Using a soft metal polish or other gentle abrasive will help you remove marks from the surface of your ceramics. However, after you use these types of cleaners, you'll need to clean the dishes thoroughly. This will remove all traces of the cleaner. Never use harsh chemicals on ceramics, as they can cause damage. Don't use harsh scrubbers on the surface of Fiesta ware, either.

Take care not to break or scratch your Fiesta dinnerware. These pieces can be hard to replace. Instead, place it on hard surfaces gently, without allowing it to bump into other pieces. Fiesta dinnerware should never be placed on the stove top or in the oven, and should be stored with a cloth or other protector between pieces to prevent breakage in the cabinet.

Storage

Store vintage Fiesta dinnerware In a display cabinet or using a china storage set. Use holders made for bowls and plates to keep tableware in good shape if you're displaying it, and make sure that all holders have smooth surfaces.

Make sure that any holders you use are made for the size and weight plate or bowl that you're displaying. This prevents accidents. You can also store Fiesta ware flat, but be sure to dust your pieces periodically.

Caring for your set of Fiesta dinnerware well means that it'll stay as useful and attractive as it was when you first bought it. It'll also make sure that your dinnerware lasts a long time. To get the most out of your Homer Laughlin Fiesta dinnerware, be sure to pay attention to how you treat it. You'll be glad you did in the long run.
